Our first attempt at maternity photos was cut short with a freezing cold down pour… we got a couple cute shots and then postponed when everyone wouldn’t look like they just got out of the shower haha. Since then they welcomed a beautiful baby girl and it was an absolute honor to be invited into their home to capture some precious first moments.

I get to meet their newest baby girl on Friday!!! Yes, that is how behind I am at sharing sessions :S I had a wonderful morning with Kara and her family capturing her adorable bump. I’m selfishly so excited we both have two girls both within months of each other, I foresee LOTS of sleepovers in their futures 🙂
This lady here is near and dear to my heart. In a very short time she has become one of my best friends and I couldn’t imagine going through this crazy journey called life without her. I feel like we’ve been through so much together already I can’t wait to grow and learn as mothers together too.
Not too long ago we (myself and another bridesmaid at her wedding) gave her a hard time that she should have a baby asap so our kids could grow up together like they did with my husband – turns out that was about to come true! I was beyond excited to find out they were expecting and that our babies would be born within a couple months.
Kathryn (and Lance) really had no option when it came to if they would have maternity photos or not and I’m so glad they let me take them out one night.
Remember when I did that super fun baseball themed gender reveal?! We’ll I’m finally getting around to sharing her maternity session, it was a beautiful afternoon and we managed to sneak them in just before -30 and lots of snow settled in. This beautiful mamma and her FIANCE (Caps ‘casuse she got engaged over the holidays) are due next month and I can’t wait to meet the little lady!!
I am so excited this girl is pregnant! Not only are we going to be having babies at the same time… we are due within 3 weeks of eachother! It’s been so amazing having a friend be pregnant at the same time again this time around, to share stories, crazy pregnancy moments and journey the road together (it’s a girl thing, boy just don’t get how nice it is to have someone at the same stage at the same time) Anyway, Sarah wanted nothing more than a winter day with fresh snow and typical calgary we got that in october by fluke and nothing since. I decided to add a little magic on the first photo so she has one with the enviroment she was hoping for. If the weather and schedules cooperate we’ll run out and grab a few more shots if some pretty snow decides to come, and I hope it does! i’ve yet to have a perfectly timed winter maternity shoot!
Oh and Sarah is the mastermind behind my new logo, business cards and the referral cards that’ll be coming out soon! She’s pretty fabulous if you wanted to check her out! http://atozcreative.ca/
A little while ago I donated a free photo session to a fundraiser for a young lady named Maddy. Maddy has Muscular Dystrophy and was in dire need a of a new van. That night over $38,500 was raised and she now cruising around in her brand new wheels!
This is the beautiful family who bid on the photo session, I first met them years ago over drink to discuss their upcoming wedding and since then I’ve had the privilege of photographing almost all their milestones (except when we found out our first kids were due within a few weeks of each other – I missed those ones) anyway, I knew Michelle and Ian would be at the event and I had a sneaky suspicion that they would be the ones contacting me to let me know they won it. Michelle said she was tempted to let someone else win so I could get a new client, but decided she wanted it more haha!!
Its been so great watching their story unfold and I’m looking forward to meeting their little lad or lady in a few weeks!
Ps. the last photo is my favorite. Dad was a little jealous Mom and Evan were getting all the spotlight so he jumped in and stole the show!
It’s about time! Just kidding. Laura and Kyle are expecting their first baby!!!! They live just around the corned from me and we’ve talked forever about mat leaves together and having kids close in age and able to run down the street to each others houses and it’s finally happening! Can you tell I’m excited?! Laura thinks it’s a boy…. but shes always been wrong on her guesses haha, so I’m going to say it’s a girl just cause she is so sure! She did a great job training their dog buddy to “kiss” her belly!
BAH! Isn’t that first image adorable?! My bff is expecting baby number two this summer and I couldn’t be more excited for her. We had to try two times for this shoot as the first one we got caught in an absolute down pour. The storms this summer seem to come and stay so when we saw the clouds rolling in I kept saying “ok one more photo” as I wanted to get in as many as I could before the rain. Well….. it went from nothing to BAM soaking wet (like we were all thrown in a lake) in seconds. And it just so happened to be the night that the storm left as fast as it came so we could have waited it out and continued after. Oh well! We went back out the following weekend and had an amazing afternoon and even managed to stay dry!
I was SO excited to actually be able to photograph my sister in law and her family this pregnancy! Last time around Breslyn came 2 weeks early and then Kaden surprised us by coming a month early! Needless to say we didn’t have a chance to get her photos done (thankfully they had captured some on their one at the park one day) Anyway…. this time we made sure we left lots of time to ensure that it happened!
Ever wonder how I got my name ‘On the Mantle’? Well, it’s all thanks to this guy! We used to work together and I’d mentioned one day that I had no idea what to call my business … he gave me a look and said “seriously? you have the coolest last name for a photography business! Every one puts family photos On the Mantle!!!” and thus my name was born! Their wedding was also the FIRST wedding I’d be able to be a part of, I borrowed Nathans camera and shot their beautiful reception. I actually borrowed Nathans camera a lot when I was first starting out, I LOVED shooting film and was hesitant to make the switch to digital so his was handy while I stood on the fence haha. That seems like light years away now!
When Nathan and Ashley let me know they were expecting I was beyond thrilled to be a part of this next stage in their lives. We headed out one evening to a new spot and off we went. Ashley was a trooper, it wasn’t that long ago that I was in her shoes and its amazing how quickly you forget what it’s like to be pregnant! I had her going down pathways and up hills, it was all worth it though, we got some great shots and turns out Sandy Beach was a sentimental place for them.
I hope you enjoy the photos! I couldn’t share all of them since some of them reveal the sex and they wanted to keep that hush hush!
