To say it was chilly is a bit of an understatement! It was the first cold snap of the season (although compared to today I’m sure it would feel quite warm) I love when people are still up to braving the weather, despite the crisp air it was a beautiful morning. Mom and I were both SO excited about all the snow and there was a lot of it – it adds such a magical feeling.

It’s always a pleasure hanging out with this beautiful family! I had the pleasure of standing up with Natashia and Eric on their wedding day and being walked down the isle with the two other R brothers. Since then, it’s been wonderful watching their families grow and change over the years. Thanks so much for inviting me back to capture your growing family!!
It was one of those days I wasn’t sure if I was still going to be doing session or if we’d have to reschedule, with kids ages one through four I thought for sure the cold fall (felt like winter) day was going to be a deterrent. It’s funny how the first cold day of the season has us in parkas and by the end of winter, a day the same temperature, will have people sporting shorts haha! Ok, maybe not quite… it was pretty chilly. Much to my excitement everyone was still game! Grandma later said that they had a whole family day planned and this was just the start, they were so excited to all just be together so there was no way it was going to be canceled. You could tell from the moment they showed up they were ready to battle the cold and snuggle close. I don’t know how many times I’ve been asked “how did you get them to smile like that??” for the first photo below, let me tell you it was all them! All I did was ask them to look at each other. It was a beautiful morning and it was such a joy to spend some time with them!
Who would have thought this evening would be one of the last fall evenings of the season, I sure didn’t! We got these photos in just in the nick of time. The kids were so full of personality and loved smiling for the camera, ok maybe not for the camera … but their Aunt had all the right moves! She came along and I have no idea what she was doing behind me but they loved it!
I had such a fun morning with this family! Despite the forecast and chance of rain, everyone was still game to head out as planned and when we did get rained on it didn’t stop us. Hunter was a blast (maybe not so much for Mom and Dad) but I loved watching him run and jump in puddles and climb on the trees – I couldn’t believe how on the move he was! Hunter is one of Breslyn’s BFF at the day home and whenever I pick her up Hunter is almost always sitting quietly playing with the toys or reading a book, so when mom asked me to do photos I thought this session would be a slam dunk! At one point I asked where the little guy I always see at day care is … mom laughed … apparently the children Kara see’s all day long is nothing like the kids we drop off and pick up! I LOVED seeing this side of Hunter and sure enjoyed watching him explore and enjoying his day.
This is Leah (and Nathan and Amina) but it was Leah who I first met while working at Samaritans Purse. Those were the good old days when work travels would take us on fun adventures driving all over the state to find a place called Mellow Mushrooms (It’s the most amazing pizza place ever) to jumping on the beds in our hotel rooms. We were just a couple of big kids! Our friendship soon grew to include our husbands and we’d find ourselves out trying new places for dinner every couple of months. We’ve come along way since then … fancy dinners out have turned into play dates in and now we are raising kids of our own.
It’s such a cool privilege to be invited into people’s lives to capture moments in time and I had so much fun with these guys! Amina was full of so much spunk and loved to smile and giggle (bribing with treats worked really well too!) We had the perfect morning to grab some family shots and thankfully the leaves were intact and the rain stayed away!
I am loving how many people are wanting to do surprise extended family shoots for the Grandparents! It’s a great idea and something to cherish, especially when most of the time the only chance we have to get big group photos like this is at weddings! I had an awesome morning with these guy and could have spent way more time with them than I did – the kids! Oh man they were so cute!
I want three (maybe….) Josh wants two, but it’s never ever crossed my mind to have EIGHT…. except when I spend time with this absolutely amazing family! I love their dynamic personalities and interactions, love and friendship. They truly are all beautiful on the inside and out!
Every was in town and available so we headed out for a quick siblings shoot. Dad came along to hang out but I managed to twist his rubber arm to jump in for a couple. I seriously heart Mr. Nicholson so I couldn’t let him just watch lol.
It was a lovely morning to spend with this beautiful family. Not everyone was too happy about being in the spotlight but in the end we got a few smiles and some precious moments!
